As requested on the initial survey last year, participants wanted a free day to explore independently. Here are some options which can be availed of. If a group wish to visit a few of the places on the list and do not have transport, you can arrange between yourselves and the bus company for minibus transport.

Visit to Galway city; Galway city is a 1.5hour drive from Ennistymon. Heritage week falls during this week in Ireland and events in Galway for this date can be found on http://www.heritageweek.ie/

Visit to Killarney:  Killarney can be accessed from Co Clare by crossing the ferry at Killimer, Co Clare (Ennistymon to Killimer 1 hour drive). From the Tarbert side to Killarney is another 1 hour drive.

Aran Islands: A ferry runs from the pier at Doolin to the Aran Islands (Inis  Oirr is the nearest – 20 min from Doolin). Doolin can be accessed from Ennistymon within 15 min drive. http://discoverinisoirr.com/

All the aran islands are full gaeltacht , which means the Irish language is the first language there.

Cliff walk Doolin: For more adventurous people there is  a Cliff Walk service which extends from Doolin to the Cliffs of Moher.  This is a guided walk and costs €10 per person http://www.doolincliffwalk.com/

Cliffs of Moher from the sea: The views of the Cliffs of Moher from below are breath taking and can be see by taking the Cliffs of Moher cruise from Doolin. The rate for the 1 hour cruise is €15 per adult and information can be found at https://www.cliffs-of-moher-cruises.com/

Golf at Lahinch: Those interested can get a round of golf at the Castle course in Lahinch for €35 and on the international links course for €190


Fun activities: Those interested in fun activities like, brown bread making, irish cooking, learn some basic Irish and small group visits to specific locations or gravesites should arrange these activities when they arrive with one of the organizing group.

Fall hotel spa treatments; Treat your self to a pampering at the spa facility at the Falls hotel. (Recommend the mother in law package) The hotel advises that you book your treatment in advance of arrival in Ireland as this is a busy period of time. http://www.fallshotel.ie/treatment-list.html

Surf enthusiasts: Lahinch is a famous surf enthusiasts mecca and surf rentals are available there for anyone who wishes to avail of the opportunity to ride a wave, http://www.lahinchsurfexperience.com/surf-gear-rentals-ireland/

Visit Liscannor: J P Holland Centre : Liscannor Co Clare, about 15 min drive from Ennistymon. John Holland is famed for inventing the sub marine. http://www.clare.ie/do/the-john-p-holland-centre/

Rock shop Licannor: This shop is an unusual place to visit and specializes in gems, minerals and fossils. http://www.therockshop.ie/
